News Concerning Altar Flowers and Candles

In an effort to be more efficient, the Altar Guild will start arranging the flower bouquets behind the altar. Sign-ups for altar flowers will still be handled by Carmen Jackson, while a crew of eight women have volunteered to obtain the flowers and create the arrangements. The estimated costs of these arrangements will be about forty dollars for two arrangements or twenty dollars for one arrangement. In addition, you can sign up to have altar candles burning in memory of a loved one, a birthday, or an anniversary, at ten dollars.

We will not have flowers on the altar during Advent, as only greens will be used as part of the “greening of the church”. Poinsettias will, of course, be used for Christmas. Candles can still be used for birthdays, etc. Flower arrangements will return again in January.

While the women are not professionals, we hope that the congregation will encourage those doing the arrangements. We are sure that the arrangements will be created with love, and pleasing to the eye.

We are planning to commence the new program on the first Sunday in November. There will be four Sundays that are available for flowers before Advent, which will start on November 30th. Please remember you can sign up for candles in December, but not for flowers.

It would be appreciated that payment for the flowers be made as soon as possible. If payment is not received by the second Sunday after you selected date(s), it will be necessary to provide you with a gentle reminder. Please remember:

  1. Sign up for flowers through Carmen Jackson
  2. $40 for two arrangements-$20 for one arrangement
  3. $10 for candles
  4. No flowers in Advent and Lent
  5. Make payment as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your support of our new program.
